Former Atlantic reporter and New York Times bestselling author Matthew Quirk has signed a two-book deal with William Morrow, an imprint of HarperCollins.
Quirk’s last book, Dead Man Switch (2017, Mulholland Books) was a hit with Book Spy followers and was among our Best Books of 2017, listed under the military thriller genre. That book followed John Hayes, a complex but compelling hero, who was first introduced in 2016’s Cold Barrel Zero. If you haven’t read either of those thrillers, I cannot recommend them enough. Quirk brings the heat in both of them, dialing up the action which pairs nicely with his smart plots and well-developed characters.
Moving forward, Quirk’s first book with William Morrow will be titled The Night Agent, and is about a young FBI agent who is in the hunt to uncover a Russian mole inside the White House. It’s scheduled to come out sometime in 2019.
Beyond that, plot details are scarce, but I did reach out to Matthew Quirk who told The Real Book Spy in a statement, ” It’s such an honor to have the opportunity to work with David [Highfill], who has guided so many authors and books I love—Don Winslow, Greg Iles, Elmore Leonard, the list goes on—and the incredible team at William Morrow. The Night Agent is bigger and riskier than anything I’ve ever done, and I can’t wait to get it into readers’ hands.”
David Highfill, mentioned above, is the VP/Executive Editor for William Morrow, and one of the most respected, and experienced editors in publishing, especially within this genre. Quirk joins a very talented roster of authors at William Morrow, a list that includes: Ted Bell, Patricia Cornwell, Deborah Crombie, Joe Hill, Greg Iles, J. A. Jance, Faye Kellerman Sean Parnell, Elizabeth Peters, Peter Robinson, James Rollins, Charles Todd, Don Winslow and many others.
While we’re still at least a year away from The Night Agent hitting bookstores, that does give plenty of time for readers to catch up on Quirk’s backlist. . . so if you haven’t read his stuff yet, now’s the time to start. Also, make sure you’re following Matthew Quirk on Twitter and Facebook, and don’t forget to check back for more details soon. We’ll be covering this title right up until its sitting on bookstore shelves!
