I love thrillers, but the majority of the books I read are not what I would consider appropriate to share with my children. Someday, sure, but not right now. Brad Meltzer, though, may be the exception to this… let me explain why.
Brad Meltzer is one of my favorite authors. While my kids don’t read his adult novels, they do (like me) enjoy his televisions shows: Brad Meltzer’s Decoded and Brad Meltzer’s Lost History.
Last year, in 2014, Meltzer began writing a series of children books as part of an “I Am” series about “Ordinary people that change the world,” beginning with I Am Amelia Earhart and I Am Abraham Lincoln. The books are great for young children ranging from kindergarten to third grade.
A few weeks ago Meltzer began broadcasting live events on Facebook where he reads books from his “I Am” series, which also includes: I Am Helen Keller, I Am Lucille Ball, I Am Albert Einstein, I Am Jackie Robinson, and I am Rosa Parks.
Last Friday (November 20, 2016) Meltzer had his first guest, Dav Pilkey, author of the famous kids series Captain Underpants!
I know we’ve especially enjoyed these broadcasts in my home, as my kids love curling up and watching Brad read them a story. it’s a really fun thing for parents to enjoy with their children, and a great way to get your kids excited about books.
