EXCLUSIVE: See the Cover for Gregg Hurwitz’s Next Orphan X Novel (with Details)

Author Gregg Hurwitz

On February 13, 2024, Evan Smoak returns to action in Lone Wolf, the latest Orphan X novel from New York Times bestselling author Gregg Hurwitz.

Smoak, also known as Orphan X (a once government-trained assassin) and the Nowhere Man (a tough-as-nails vigilante, first appeared in Hurwitz’s 2016 thriller, Orphan X. Since then, he’s gone on to star in eight books to date, including The Last Orphan, which was released earlier this year. That book followed Smoak—who lives by a code and refuses to kill on assignment for no reason other than to obey orders—as he attempted to navigate through his toughest assignment yet, one that not only tested him physically and mentally, but also forced him to decide morally how far he was willing to go in order to stay alive.

Lone Wolf, the ninth book in the series (published by Minotaur Books), is said to follow the events of The Last Orphan, but the full plot details are still unknown. However, Book Spy readers are getting an exclusive sneak peek at the cover art, which looks fantastic, and a teaser from the author.

“Evan Smoak,” Hurwitz told The Real Book Spy, “the man to whom the truly desperate turn in their time of greatest need, reluctantly takes on a new mission:  finding a girl’s lost dog. This unlikely, tiny job quickly explodes into his biggest mission yet, one that finds him battered between twisted AI technocrat billionaires, a mysterious female assassin who seems a mirror of himself, and personal stakes so gut-wrenching he can scarcely make sense of them. The Fourth Commandment warns: Never make it personal. But when the threat level is this high and the danger comes this fast, it’s nearly impossible to stay on mission—or alive.”
