Joe Gunther and the VBI team will return for their 30th adventure in Bomber’s Moon, the highly-anticipated new thriller from Archer Mayor, set to hit bookstores on September 24th, 2019.
Mayor’s next thriller will follow last year’s Bury the Lead, which saw Gunther investigate a murder and arson case that ended up being linked to an Ebola outbreak. This time around, Joe and his team head to Vermont in search of a killer who stabbed a small-town drug dealer, only to stumble onto a bigger case that proves to be one of the most dangerous of his career.
The murder of a small-time drug dealer snowballs into the most complex case ever faced by Joe Gunther and his VBI team.
Joe Gunther and his team in the Vermont Bureau of Investigation are brought in to help look into the knifing death of a small-time drug dealer in the Vermont town of Bellows Falls. At the same time, a burglar is committing a series of complex capers, drawing the attention of a young journalist looking to profile him. Finally, a private detective is hired to look into the finances of an elite local prep school, and uncovers a scandal much bigger than mere financial irregularities. These individual investigations—police, private, and journalistic—begin to intersect when the burglar overreaches and is himself murdered by the same killer or killers who took out the drug dealer.
What at first seemed an insignificant murder of a small-time felon becomes increasingly bigger and deadlier, as the bodies start to pile up and the people behind them, lurking in the shadows, become more and desperate. But as the VBI and the others get closer to exposing their targets, they too are becoming more of a target themselves.
Archer Mayor, in addition to writing the New York Times bestselling Joe Gunther series, is an investigator for the sheriff’s department, the state medical examiner, and has twenty-five years of experience as a firefighter/EMT. He lives near Brattleboro, Vermont.
