There’s a lot more Jack Ryan heading your way.
Even since his passing in 2013, Tom Clancy’s #1 New York Times bestselling Jack Ryan series has remained one of the most popular and beloved franchises in fiction today. Clancy’s legacy, of course, is cemented. He is, without question, one of the greatest to ever do it and paved the way for many political thriller novelists who came after him. But since his passing, there are a number of authors who deserve credit for contributing to the Ryanverse and keeping things afloat—a list that includes Grant Blackwood, Mike Maden, Don Bently, Mark Greaney, and Marc Cameron.
Now, Brian Andrews and Jeff Wilson, the most popular writing duo on the thriller scene today, are set to offer their take on Jack Ryan and Clancy’s universe in their forthcoming novel, Tom Clancy Command and Control, which is due out sometime in the summer of 2024.
“Talk about going full circle…two dudes who both read the Hunt For Red October and were inspired to join the Navy get to write Jack Ryan #24, which is going to be released on the 40th Anniversary! Whoever said destiny isn’t ironic,” said Andrews & Wilson in an exclusive statement to The Real Book Spy.
Full circle, indeed.
In many ways, Andrews & Wilson, best known for their lights-out Tier One series, are the perfect writers to take over this iconic series. In doing so, they’ll replace Marc Cameron, who himself replaced Mark Greaney back in 2017 (news we reported first here). Cameron’s seventh and final Jack Ryan book will be released later this fall. We’ll have more details on that in the coming months, along with a full review ahead of its publication.
Here’s the official announcement from Publisher’s Marketplace.
Following Marc Cameron’s upcoming retirement from the Jack Ryan series following the publication of November 2024’s Tom Clancy Command and Control, Brian Andrews and Jeffrey Wilson (w/a Andrews & Wilson) will take on the writing duties for the next Tom Clancy book, Tom Clancy Jack Ryan #24 to Tom Colgan at Putnam, for publication in Summer 2024, by Gina Panettieri at Talcott Notch Literary
“Some people consider the thriller genre mindless escapism, but we have a very different take,” said Andrews & Wilson when asked about their approach to this series. “For us, storytelling is something we take very seriously—we view it as a professional opportunity to highlight the integrity, courage, and professionalism of the men and women in the military and intelligence communities who tirelessly serve this great nation without ever asking for anything in return.
We’re so honored to join the incredible and elite company of authors who’ve written in the Clancy universe: Mark Greaney, Grant Blackwood, Mike Maden, Don Bentley, and Marc Cameron. When we got the ask, we were more than a little intimidated by following in Marc’s footsteps. How do you do that?”
How will they follow those other acclaimed authors? We’ll soon find out.
“We’re extremely excited to welcome Andrews & Wilson to the Clancy team,” said Tom Colgan, Vice President, and Editorial Director at Berkley, who has overseen the Ryanverse since Clancy’s early days at Penguin. “As Navy veterans themselves, they will bring the authenticity and creativity that Clancy readers demand to the Jack Ryan series.”
As most fans are aware by now, there are normally two Clancy books released each year, one (typically a Jack Ryan Junior-focused book) in the summer and one (which tends to focus more on Jack Sr.) in the fall. Just to reiterate, Andrews & Wilson will succeed Marc Cameron on the Jack Sr. books, who himself followed Mark Greaney. Currently, Don Bentley—who followed Grand Blackwood and Mike Maden—is penning the Jack Junior books, though it’s unclear if he will continue to do so now that he’s been announced as the replacement for Kyle Mills and is set to take over Vince Flynn’s Mitch Rapp series in 2024.
We’ll have plenty of coverage for Andrews & Wilson and Tom Clancy Command and Control, so make sure to check back soon for updates.
