Update: 5/31/2017
We finally have the plot details for Agent in Place, check them out below!
“Court Gentry is back in action. This time he’s working on behalf of a well-connected group of Syrian expats to secure the Syrian president’s mistress so they can use her to bring down the president’s regime. But the expats’ plan goes awry when it’s discovered the mistress has a baby–the Syrian president’s only male heir–hidden away in a Damascus safe house.
“Court goes after the baby, a decision that comes at the price of the mistress’s life. The expat organization deems the boy now useless to their cause and refuses to protect him against the Syrian first lady and the notorious Swiss assassin in her employ. With no support on the way, Court realizes he’ll have to take down the Syrian president himself if he and the boy are going to make it out alive…”
He goes by several names –the Gray Man, Violator–but no matter what you call him, CIA operative Court Gentry has been striking fear into the hearts of bad guys since Mark Greaney first introduced him to readers in his 2009 novel, The Gray Man.
Since then, Greaney has built one of the top spy franchises in print today (we ranked him #5 on our 2016 list of the Top Ten Baddest Dudes in the Spy Genre) around his skilled assassin. In fact, this year’s Gunmetal Gray, the sixth novel in the series, was the first to debut on the New York Times bestsellers list.
With the Gray Man trending upward and Greaney’s star blazing brighter than ever, thanks in part to his work in Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan universe, fans have been searching for any and all clues about what Gentry will do next. Thankfully, details are starting to pour in.
Back in January, Greaney posted on his official Facebook page that he was researching the next Gray Man book — which, at the time, he was calling Weaponized — in Paris. That title has now changed, and we’re able to report that the seventh Gray Man novel will actually be titled Agent In Place.
In regards to the name change Greaney told us, “I had been intending on calling my seventh Gray Man novel ‘Weaponized,’ but the deeper I got into writing it, the more I felt the title didn’t convey the full idea of the story. Once the art department showed me their amazing cover idea, we decided a title change would only benefit the look of the novel.”
Speaking of the cover art, Book Spy followers are getting an exclusive first look, and it’s pretty awesome. Scroll down to check it out!
“I’m very excited to reveal the cover to AGENT IN PLACE and can’t wait for Gray Man fans to get their hands on the new release.” – Mark Greaney
Agent In Place is scheduled to hit bookstores on February 20, 2018, but fans can pre-order it in advance here. In the meantime, if you’re not already reading Greaney’s hard-hitting series, pick up the first book, The Gray Man, and see why thriller fans can’t get enough of Court Gentry, a Jason Bourne-like character with an even more lethal skill set.
